Archangel or Archangels?

When looking for quotes in the bible we only find the term archangel 1 2 . In neither verse does he generate the idea that there are other archangels. In the analysis of angels in the bible we find the generic term angel, which can be applied both to celestial beings and to any generic messenger 3 .

Through the Bible we can divide heavenly messengers (angels) by classes, among them. Cherubim 4 , Seraphim 5 and Archangel 1 2 . Seraphim comes from the term to burn or to flush 6 to the term if idealizes an angel that is in the fire or in places in fire. Cherubim comes from an uncertain term 7 , and Archangel 1 2 is only found in the New Testament, with the idea of a chief angel 8 .

Where did the concept of archangels come from? The concept of archangels comes from the artistic concept, in using the term " choir of angels and archangels ". Notably we see the existence of cherubs, Seraphim and archangels. But the popular one uses only angels and archangels. The use of angels and archangels is phonetically close, which would differ using the term cherubim and Seraphim. So the idea of archangels does not come from a Biblical foundation.

Over the years the term archangels has become popular in conversation and music. Like for example .....

When we read the Bible we must understand concepts of inspiration and advice. A bible writer is like an individual who seeks to be closer to the will of God, but to be close is not to be God. Bible writers can give opinions 9 , this does not say that such a person should be disregarded, but texts that are explanatory and not concepts of feelings should be analyzed. For example, compare the wrath of man 10 with the wrath of God 9 . So you must have a correct idea of the term and how it was placed in the texts.

When we quote Ellen White we have to know how to analyze her texts. Some people say that all the documents she exposes are inspired, others that only the things that Ellen determines inspired are inspired. In the organization of the church, it was decided that all texts should be inspired. Nowadays there are several problems due to the idea that all the texts were inspired, so that nowhere do I have only the opinion of the Ellen woman.

Firstly with the term " angels and archangels ", it has no logical meaning, as it differentiates archangels from angels, we have the basis that an archangel is an angel. The " chief angel ", so if we separate angels and archangels, where would Seraphim or Cherubim meet? And if we analyze which angel is a messenger, would we define chief messenger, and normal messenger? See that saying " angels and archangels " is linked to poetic form and not doctrinal form.

So when we look at the concept of " angels and archangels " in Ellen's text , is that doctrine? such is an artistic figure of speech? such is a custom ingrained in popular culture? So we must define the basis for everything. For example, does a prophet stop being human? Or prophet prophesies in moments and then is a normal human being. Is a prophet a perfect being who has become like Christ, or is a prophet someone who errs, sins and thinks like a human being? Questions like this that most people don't question are very important to understand prophecy, and prophet.

We have, for example, Elijah, a prophet who ascended to Heaven, worked in the resurrection, and in various miracles, and it is said that such a person has the same human passions 11 . So when we see Ellen's texts on archangels do we have a doctrinal text or an idea of aesthetics and the sentimental perspective of the text? We can idealize the text as (men and bosses), which would be strange in that the nature of man is to have bosses. We could have (soldiers and captains). Which would generate that all soldiers are linked to captains or captain. But can we say that being an angel is necessarily connected with archangels?

When we read in 1 Thessalonians 4:16 1, we have that the Lord will give a great cry, which is the voice of the archangel 1 . The question is is the voice of God the voice of the archangel? Or does God use the voice of the archangel? So the question remains, archangel what is it? Is the Archangel the main angel, or just the chief of the angels? If you have several archangels, then who is the chief of the archangels. There would be archangels of archangels, but archangels are angels ???? If an archangel is not an angel, how is an archangel chief of another archangel if an archangel is chief of angel, and not chief of non-angel?

Let us begin to read the text contained in Sketches from the life of Paul 11 {LP - Sketches from the Life of Paul (1883)} In which he says that Paul watched the stairs and understood that he was Christ, and reports that Paul heard the angels and archangels , magnifying the name of the Savior. In a letter to Waggoner she writes angels and archangels in the work of redemption 13 . In a sermon in Australia in 1894 she quotes " Cherubs and seraphim, angels and archangels, are watching the battle that is going on in this life. Among whom? " 14 . In a letter to T. Jones in 1888 she quotes " Angels and archangels are looking to God's chosen ones with the most serious interest to see what influences the truth they are having on the mind and character "15 .

Ellen mentions that Christ is Archangel Michael 16 . The question is: is an archangel an angel? Archangel is main angel? Is there an angel, archangel, cherub and seraph? Or is there only cherub and seraph? Since Ellen says that Lucifer was under Christ the most important but he was a covering Cherub. So since he was the most important under Christ, would he have to be an Archangel? It would be to think of the existence of two archangels, Archangel Michael and Archangel Lucifer. Or was it Archangel Michael and Cherub Lucifer? The acceptance that there are several archangels and not one, focuses on an idea of equality between Archangel Michael and other Archangels. The consequence of this ideology is to make common positions for a system of Biblical determination that defines the Archangel, not the Archangels.

  1. 1Th_4: 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a great shout, at the voice of the archangel, at the sound of God's trumpet, and those who died in Christ will rise first.
  2. Jud_1: 9 But when the archangel Michael, arguing with the Devil, disputed about the body of Moses, he did not dare to pronounce a curse judgment against him, but said: The Lord rebuke you
  3. מַלְאָךְ
    mal'âk
    mal-awk'
    From an unused root meaning to despatch as a deputy; a messenger; specifically of God, that is, an angel (also a prophet, priest or teacher): - ambassador, angel, king, messenger.
  4. Gen_3: 24 And when he threw away the man, he placed the cherubim on the east side of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword that went round on all sides, to guard the way of the tree of life.
  5. Isa_6: 2 Around him were seraphim; each had six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet and with two he flew.
  6. שָׂרָף
    śârâph
    saw-rawf'
    From H8313; burning, that is, (figuratively) poisonous (serpent); specifically a saraph or symbolical creature (from their copper color): - fiery (serpent), seraph.
  7. כְּרוּב
    kerûb
    ker-oob'
    Of uncertain derivation; a cherub or imaginary figure: - cherub, [plural] cherubims.
  8. ἀρχάγγελος
    archaggelos
    ar-khang'-el-os
    From G757 and G32; a chief angel: - archangel.
  9. Rom 3: 5 And if our injustice proves God's justice, what shall we say? Is God, who punishes in anger, unjust? (I speak as a man.)
  10. Jas_1: 20 For man's wrath does not work God's justice.
  11. Jas_5: 17 Elijah was a man subject to the same passions as us, and he prayed fervently that it would not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.
  12. This man of faith beholds the ladder presented in Jacob's vision,--the ladder which rested upon the earth and reached to the highest heavens, and upon which angels of God were ascending and descending. He knows that this ladder represents Christ, who has connected earth with Heaven, and finite man with the infinite God. He hears angels and archangels magnifying that glorious name. His faith is strengthened as he calls to mind that patriarchs and prophets relied upon the same Saviour who is his support and consolation, and for whom he is giving his life. Those holy men who from century to century sent down their testimony for the truth, and the apostles, who to preach the gospel of Christ went out to meet religious bigotry and heathen superstition, who counted not their lives dear unto themselves if they might bear aloft the light of the cross amid the dark mazes of infidelity,--all these he hears witnessing to Jesus as the Son of the Most High, the Saviour of the world. The martyr's shout of triumph, the fearless testimony for the faith, falls upon his ear from the rack, the stake, the dungeon, from the dens and caves of the earth, from steadfast souls who are destitute, afflicted, tormented, yet of whom the world is not worthy. With a continually strengthening assurance they declare, "I know whom I have believed." And as they yield up their lives as witnesses for the faith, they bear a solemn, condemning testimony to the world, declaring that He in whom they trusted has proved himself able to save to the uttermost. {LP 332.2}
  13. Angels and archangels wonder at this great plan of redemption; they admire and love the Father and the Son as they behold the mercy and love of God; there is no feeling of jealousy as this new temple, renewed in the image of Christ, is presented in its loveliness to stand around the throne of God. But my letter must close. I send this to you, Elder Waggoner, for you to make use of it as you shall deem fit.--Letter 31, 1892, pp. 1-9. (To "Dear Brother Waggoner," May, 1892.) {3MR 19.3}
  14. Cherubims and seraphims, angels and archangels, are watching the battle that is going on in this life. Between whom? The Prince of life and the power of darkness. And what does God do? He shows us how we must do, how we must conduct the battle. He left the royal courts, laid aside His royal robe, and clothed His humanity with divinity. He became a man among the sons of men, and here He walked the world as what? A representative of the love of God, an example that we may study, a character that we may imitate every phase of, that we may see that He did not live to glorify Himself, but He lived to point to God. He came to live the law of God, because Satan was bringing his power to bear upon men, and his lying fallacies were all the time pressing upon them. {1SAT 241.1} Sermon at Prahran (a suburb of Melbourne), Victoria, Australia
    Sunday, 4:00 p.m., February 18, 1894
  15. We claim to be Christians under the control, not of our own feelings, but of the Spirit of God, devoted to the service of Christ, who has chosen us to be under the dictation of His Holy Spirit. He has offered to His Father a most wonderful prayer, that His disciples may be as He was, one with the Father. Now it is the duty of every one who believes in Christ as their personal Saviour, to answer that prayer. Angels and archangels are looking upon God's chosen ones with the most earnest interest to see what influence the truth is having upon mind and character, to see how much they appreciate the One who was crucified for them, that they might have eternal life. If the plainest injunctions and His commandments are lightly regarded, and the prayer of Christ just prior to His offering the great sacrifice, has been strangely neglected, what does it mean? We are truly a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men. {1888 1036.2}
  16. AGAIN: CHRIST IS CALLED THE WORD OF GOD. JOHN 1:1-3. HE IS SO CALLED BECAUSE GOD GAVE HIS REVELATIONS TO MAN IN ALL AGES THROUGH CHRIST. IT WAS HIS SPIRIT THAT INSPIRED THE PROPHETS. 1 PETER 1:10, 11. HE WAS REVEALED TO THEM AS THE ANGEL OF JEHOVAH, THE CAPTAIN OF THE LORD'S HOST, MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL. {PP 761.5}
  17. Sin originated with the one who, under Christ, was the most honored by God, and the highest in power and glory among the inhabitants of Heaven. Lucifer, "son of the morning", was the first of the covering cherubs, holy , uncontaminated. He remained in the presence of the great Creator, and the incessant rays of glory that surrounded the eternal God, rested upon him. ...
