Many people ask how the God reported in the Bible determined how to count the days. So we read.

Gen 1: 5 He called God to light Day and darkness, Night. There was evening and morning, the first day.

So the split mode of the 24 hour day is late and morning. So we have that afternoon is the part of darkness, and morning is the part of light. So the day starts in the early evening, that is, at sunset.

But where does the day come from after midnight? This occurred with the Romans, in an attempt to create a more accurate way of measuring time. Whereas the sunset varies depending on the region. A flat territory has a shorter afternoon than a mountainous territory. So the Romans chose to see the sun at its peak, and this was noon, and midnight is the time of twelve hours after noon.
