Coat Of Mail
(שַׁרְיוֹן, shiryon', glittering) occurs in the description of Goliath's armor (1Sa_17:5), and also of Saul's (1Sa_17:38). SEE ARMOR. The plural forms are found in Neh_4:16; 2Ch_26:14; where they are translated habergeons (q.v.). The kindred terms, שַׁרְיָה (shiryah', habergeon, Job_41:26), שִׁרְיָן (shiryan', harness, 1Ki_22:34; 2Ch_18:33; breast-plate, Isa_59:17), and סַרְיוֹן (siryon', brigandines, Jer_46:4; Jer_51:3), were probably less complete kinds of the same, i.e. corslets. SEE MAIL.
