GIBEA.A grandson of Caleb (1Ch_2:49). The list of the descendants of Judah through Caleb given in 1Ch_2:42 ff. is geographical rather than genealogical, and comprises all the towns lying in the Negeb of Judah to the S. of Hebron. Gibea is probably only a variation in spelling of the more common Gibeah. See Gibeah, 1.

Gib'e-a. (a hill). Sheva, "the father of Macbenah" and "father of Gibea", is mentioned with other names, unmistakably those of places and not persons, among the descendants of Judah. 1Ch_2:49. Compare 1Ch_2:42. This would seem to point out Gibea.

Gibea
(Heb. Giba', גִּבִַ א, hill; Sept. Γαιβαά v.r. Γαιβάλ), a place built or occupied in connection with Macbenah by Sheva, son of Caleb's concubine Maachah (1Ch_2:49); hence probably the same with GIBEAH (q.v.) of Judah (Jos_15:57).
