ITHRITE, THE.A gentilic adjective applied to the descendants of a family of Kiriath-jearim (1Ch_2:53), amongst whom were two of Davids guard (2Sa_23:38, 1Ch_11:40 Ira and Gareb). Possibly, however, the text of 2Sa_23:1-39 and 1Ch_11:1-47 should be pointed the Jattirite, i.e. an inhabitant of Jattir (mentioned in 1Sa_30:27 as one of Davids haunts) in the hill-country of Judah (Jos_15:48; Jos_21:14).
