(1) The father of Korah (Num_16:1), descended from a Kohathite Levite of this name, whose descendants formed a family, in the tribe of Levi (Exo_6:18, Exo_6:21; Num_3:19, Num_3:27; 1Ch_6:18, 1Ch_6:38).
(2) A descendant of Judah, whose mother's name was Helah. the American Revised Version margin gives the name Zohar (1Ch_4:7).

(Heb. Yitshar', יַצְהָר, oil, as often; Sept. Ι᾿σσαάρ, Ι᾿σαάρ), the second son of Kohath (son of Levi), and father of three sons (Exo_6:18; Exo_6:21; Num_16:1; 1Ch_6:2; 1Ch_6:18; 1Ch_6:38; 1Ch_23:12; 1Ch_23:18). In Num_3:19, his name is Anglicized Izehar. His descendants are called IZHARITES (Heb. Yitshari', יַצְהָרַי; Sept. Ι᾿σσααρί, Ι᾿σσαρί, Ι᾿σσαάρ [Num_3:27; 1Ch_24:22; 1Ch_26:23; 1Ch_26:29, in the first of which passages it is Anglicized Izeharites]). B.C. post 1856. SEE ZOHAR.
In 1Ch_6:22, Alminiadab is substituted for Izhar, as the son of Kohath and father of Korah, in the line of Samuel. This, however, must be an accidental. error of the scribe, as in 1Ch_6:38, where the same genealogy is repeated, Izhar appears again in his right place. The Codex Alex. in 1Ch_6:22 reads Izhar in place of Amminadab, and the Aldine and Complut. read Amminadab between Izhar and Kore, making another generation.
