JAHAZIEL.1. A Benjamite who joined David at Ziklag (1Ch_12:4). 2. One of the two priests who blew trumpets before the ark when it was brought by David to Jerusalem (1Ch_16:6). 3. A Kohathite Levite (1Ch_23:19; 1Ch_24:23). 4. An Asaphite Levite who encouraged Jehoshaphat and his army against an invading host (2Ch_20:14). 5. The ancestor of a family of exiles who returned (Ezr_8:5); called in 1Es_8:32 Jezelus.

4. Of the sons of Asaph. Under the Spirit, who came upon him, he encouraged Jehoshaphat and the congregation of Judah in the house of the Lord, before the new court: "thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not ... dismayed by reason of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God's; tomorrow go ye down against them; behold they come up by the cliff of Ziz, and ye shall find them at the end of the brook (valley) before the wilderness of Jeruel, ye shall not need to fight ... stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you" (2Ch_20:14; Psa_83:3-7). This psalm was composed by one of the sons "of Asaph," which Jahaziel was; he probably was its author. It is called: a "song" (shir), a thanksgiving by anticipation for the victory. It was sung by the Levite Kohathites and Korhites. So, according to their faith, "when they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushments against Ammon, Moab, ... and they were smitten." The 47th Psalm was sung on the battlefield (2Ch_20:26) after the victory, the 48th Psalm subsequently (2Ch_20:28) in the temple.

(2) In 1Ch_16:6, one of two priests appointed by David to sound trumpets before the ark on its journey to Jerusalem. The Septuagint's Codex Vaticanus and Codex Alexandrinus, read ?Uzziel.?
(3) In 1Ch_23:19; 1Ch_24:23, a Levite, ?son? of Hebron, a Kohathite. Kittel, following the Septuagint, reads ?Uzziel.?
(4) In 2Ch_20:14, an Asaphite, son of Zechariah. He encouraged King Jehoshaphat of Judah and his subjects to fight against the Moabite and Ammonite invaders.

Jahaziel
(Hebrew Yachaziel', יִחֲזַיאֵל, beheld by God; Sept. Ι᾿εζιήλ, Ι᾿αζιήλ, Ο᾿ζιήλ, Α᾿ζίήλ), the name of five men. SEE JAHZEEL.
1. The third son of Hebron, the grandson of Levi through Kohath (1 Chronicles 23:19; 24:33). B.C. probably post 1618, perhaps 1014.
2. One of the Benjamite warriors who joined David at Ziklag (1Ch_12:4). B.C. 1055.
3. One of the priests who preceded the sacred ark with trumpets on its removal to Jerusalem (1Ch_16:6). B.C. cir. 1043.
4. The son of Zechariah, a Levite of the family- of Asaph, who predicted to Jehoshaphat his triumph over the host of the Moabites with such decided assurances. SEE JEHOSAPHAT. He is nowhere else mentioned in Scripture, but his prophecy on this occasion is given in full: Then upon Jahaziel, the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the Lord in the midst of the congregation; and he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou, king Jehoshaphat, thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's. o-morrow go ye down against them: behold, they' come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel. Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to-morrow go out against them, for the Lord will be with you (2Ch_20:14-17).
