JEDAIAH.1. A priestly family (1Ch_9:10; 1Ch_24:7, Ezr_2:36 [in 1Es_5:24 Jeddu], Neh_7:39; Neh_11:10; Neh_12:6-7; Neh_12:19; Neh_12:21). 2. One of the exiles sent with gifts of gold and silver for the sanctuary at Jerusalem (Zec_6:10; Zec_6:14). 3. A Simeonite chief (1Ch_4:37). 4. One of those who repaired the wall of Jerusalem (Neh_3:10).

Jedai'ah. (praise Jehovah).
1. Head of the second course of priests, as they were divided, in the time of David. 1Ch_24:7. (B.C. 1014). Some of them survived to return to Jerusalem, after the Babylonish captivity, as appears from Ezr_2:36; Neh_7:39.
2. A priest, in the time of Jeshua, the high priest. Zec_6:10; Zec_6:14. (B.C. 536).
3. A Simeonite, forefather of Ziza. 1Ch_4:37.
4. Son of Harumaph; a man, who did his part in the rebuilding of the wall of Jerusalem. Neh_3:10. (B.C. 446).

(c) Jedaiah is among ?the priests and the Levites? that returned with Zerubbabel (Neh_11:10; Neh_12:6, Neh_12:19).
(d) Another priest of the same name (Neh_12:7, Neh_12:21).
(e) One of the exiles whom Zechariah was commanded to send with silver and gold to Jerusalem. Septuagint does not take the word as a proper name (Zec_6:10, Zec_6:14)

Jedaiah
(Heb. Yedayah'), the name of several men, of different form in the original.
1. (יְדָיָה, tinvoker of Jehovah; Sept. Ε᾿διά v.r. Ι᾿εδιά and Ι᾿εδαϊvα) Son of Shimri and father of Allon, of the ancestors of Ziza, a chief Simeonite who migrated to the valley of Gedor (1Ch_4:37). B.C. long ante 711.
2. (Same Hebrew name as preceding; Sept. Ieiala.) Son of Harumaph, and one of those that repaired the walls of Jerusalem after the exile (Neh_3:10). B.C. 446.
3. (יְדִעְיָה, knowing Jehovah; Sept. Ι᾿δεία) The chief of the second division of priests as arranged by David (1Ch_24:7). B.C. 1014.
4. (Same Heb. name as preceding; Sept. Ι᾿ωδαέ, Ι᾿εδδουά, Ι᾿αδία, Ι᾿δεϊvας, ᾿Ωδουϊvας, ῎Εδιος, Ι᾿εδεϊού, Αἰδειού) A priest who officiated in Jerusalem after the exile (1Ch_9:10; Neh_11:10; in which latter passage, however, he is styled the son of Joiarib, evidently the same as the Jehoiarib with whom he is merely associated in the former passage). From Ezr_2:36; Neh_7:39, he appears to have belonged to the family of Jeshua (973 of his relatives having returned with him from Babylon), so that he is probably the same with the priest Jedaiah enumerated (Neh_12:6) amongst the contemporaries of Jeshua who returned with Zerubbabel (the name apparently being repeated in Neh_12:7; comp. Neh_12:19; Neh_12:21, where the same repetition occurs, although with the mention of different sons), and probably also identical with the Jedaiah whom the prophet was directed to crown with the symbolical wreath (Zec_6:10; Zec_6:14). ῥ B.C. 536-520.
