JEHIEL.—1. One of David’s chief musicians (1Ch_15:18; 1Ch_15:20; 1Ch_16:5). 2. A chief of the Levites (1Ch_23:8; 1Ch_29:8). 3. One who was ‘with (= tutor of?) the king’s sons’ (1Ch_27:32). 4. One of Jehoshaphat’s sons (2Ch_21:2). 5. One of Hezekiah’s ‘overseers’ (2Ch_31:13). 6. A ruler of the house of God in Josiah’s reign (2Ch_35:8). 7. The father of Obadiah, a returned exile (Ezr_8:9); called in 1Es_8:35 Jezelus. 8. Father of Shecaniah (Ezr_10:2); called in 1Es_8:92 Jeelus, perhaps identical with 9. One of those who had married foreign wives (Ezr_10:26); called in 1Es_9:27 Jezrielus. 10. A priest of the sons of Harim who had married a foreign wife (Ezr_10:21); called in 1Es_9:21 Hiereel.

Jehi'el. (God lives).
1. One of the Levites, appointed by David, to assist in the service, of the house of God. 1Ch_15:18; 1Ch_15:20; 1Ch_16:5.
2. One of the sons of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, put to death by his brother, Jehoram. 2Ch_21:2; 2Ch_21:4. (B.C. 887).
3. One of the rulers of the house of God, at the time of the reforms of Josiah. 2Ch_35:8. (B.C. 623).
4. A Gershonite Levite, 1Ch_23:8, who had charge of the treasures. 1Ch_28:8.
5. A son of Hachmoni, named in the list of David's officers, 1Ch_27:32, as "with the king's sons," whatever that may mean.
6. A Levite, who took part in the restorations of King Hezekiah. 2Ch_29:14. (B.C. 726).
7. Another Levit, e at the same period. 2Ch_31:13.
8. Father of Obadiah, of the Bene-Joab, (that is, sons of Joab). Ezr_8:9. (B.C. before 459).
9. One of the Bene-Elam, (that is, sons of Elam), father of Shechaniah. Ezr_10:2.
10. A member of the same family, who himself had to part with his wife. Ezr_10:26.
11. A priest, one of the Bene-Harim, (that is, sons of Harim), who also had to put away his foreign wife. Ezr_10:21. (B.C. 459).
