JEHOHANAN.—1. 1Ch_26:3 a Korahite doorkeeper. 2. 2Ch_17:15 one of Jehoshaphat’s five captains. 3. Ezr_10:6 (Jonas, 1Es_9:1; Johanan, Neh_12:22-23; Jonathan, Neh_12:11) high priest. He is called son of Eliashib in Ezr_10:6, Neh_12:23, but was probably his grandson, Joiada being his father (Neh_12:11; Neh_12:22). 4. Ezr_10:28 (= Joannes, 1Es_9:29), one of those who had taken ‘strange’ wives. 5. Neh_6:18 son of Tobiah the Ammonite. 6. Neh_12:13 a priest in the days of Joiakim. 7. Neh_12:42 a priest present at the dedication of the walls.

1. 1Ch_26:1, margin 3; of the sons of Ebiasaph (not Asaph, who was a Gershonite not Kohathite).
2. The captain of 280,000 in and about Jerusalem under Jehoshaphat (2Ch_17:13; 2Ch_17:15; 2Ch_17:19). Probably the same as the father of Ishmael, the captain who helped Jehoiada against Athaliah (2Ch_23:1).
3. Ezr_10:28.
4. Neh_12:2; Neh_12:12-13. Neh_12:5. Neh_12:40-42.

Jeho'hanan. (whom Jehovah gave). A name of which John is the contraction.
1. A Korhite Levite, one of the doorkeepers to the Tabernacle. 1Ch_26:3. Compare 1Ch_25:1. (B.C. 1014).
2. One of the principal men of Judah, under King Jehoshaphat. 2Ch_17:15. Compare 2Ch_17:13 and 2Ch_17:19. (B.C. 910).
3. Father of Ishmael, one of the "captains of hundreds," whom Jehoiada, the priest, took into his confidence, about the restoration of the line of Judah. 2Ch_23:1. (B.C. 910).
4. One of the Bene-Bebai, (that is, sons of Bebai), who was forced to put away his foreign wife. Ezr_10:28. (B.C. 459).
5. A priest, Neh_12:13, during the high priesthood of Joiakim. Neh_12:12. (B.C. 406).
6. A priest, who took part in the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem. Neh_12:42. (B.C. 446).

(1) A Korahite doorkeeper in David's reign, ?son? of Meshelemiah (1Ch_26:3). Septuagint, Luc, has ?Jehonathan.?
(2) One of the five captains over King Jehoshaphat's army (2Ch_17:15), probably father of Ishmael, ?son of Jehohanan? (2Ch_23:1).
(3) Ezr_10:6 (the King James Version has ?Johnnan?) = ?Johanan? of Neh_12:22, Neh_12:23 = ?Jonathan? of Neh_12:11, ?son? of Eliashib (Ezr_10:6; but ?grandson? in Neh_12:11). He was high priest in Ezra's time = ?Jonas? in 1 Esdras 9:1 (the King James Version ?Joanan?).
(4) One of those who had married foreign wives (Ezr_10:28) = ?Joannes? the Revised Version (British and American), ?Johannes? the King James Version (1 Esdras 9:29).
(5) Son of Tobiah, the Ammonite, Nehemiah's opponent (Neh_6:18, the King James Version ?Johanan?).
(6) Head of the priestly family of Amariah (Neh_12:13).
(7) A priest present at the dedication of the walls of Jerusalem (Neh_12:42).
(8) The name in the Hebrew of 2Ch_28:12. See JOHANAN, (7).

Jehohanan
(Heb. Yehochanan', יְחֹוֹחָנָןJehovah-granted, q.d. θεοδῶρος), the name of several men. SEE JOHANAN; SEE JOHN, etc.
1. (Sept. Ι᾿ωνάν) A Korhite and head of the sixth division of Levitical Temple porters (1Ch_26:3). B.C. 1014.
2. (Sept. Ι᾿ωανάν) Jehoshaphat's second “captain,” in command of 280,000 (?) men (2Ch_17:15); probably the same whose son Ishmael supported Jehoiada in his restoration of prince Jehoash (2Ch_23:1). B.C. cir. 910.
3. (Sept. Ι᾿ωανάν, Auth. Vers. “Johanan.”) The father of Azariah, which latter was one of the Ephraimite chiefs who insisted upon the return of the captives from the rival kingdom (2Ch_28:12). B.C. ante 738.
4. (Sept. Ι᾿ωανάν, A. Vers. “Johanan.”) A priest, the “son” of Eliashib, into whose chamber Ezra retired to bewail the profligacy of his countrymen in marrying Gentile wives (Ezr_10:6); doubtless the same elsewhere called JOHANAN in the original (Neh_12:22-23) and perhaps identical with No. 7 below.
5. (Sept. Ι᾿ωανάν) One of the “sons” of Bebai, who divorced his Gentile wife after the Babylonian exile (Ezr_10:28). B.C. 459.
6. (Sept. Ι᾿ωνάθαν v.r. Ι᾿ωνάν, Auth. Vers. “Johanan.”) Son of Tobiah, the Samaritan enemy of the Jews; and son-in-law of Meshullam (Neh_6:18). B.C. 446.
7. (Sept. Ι᾿ωνάν) One of the priests who celebrated with music the reparation of the walls of Jerusalem (Neh_12:42). B.C. 446. He was perhaps the same with No. 4 or No. 8.
8. (Sept. Ι᾿ωανάν) A leading priest, the “son” of Amariah and contemporary with Joiakim (Neh_12:13). B.C. cir. 406. He may have been identical with the preceding.
