AMMIEL (‘kinsman is God’).—1. Son of Gemalli, and spy of the tribe of Dan (Num_13:12 (P [Note: Priestly Narrative.] )). 2. Father of Machir (2Sa_9:4 f., 2Sa_17:27). 3. The sixth son of Obed-edom, who with his family constituted one of the courses of doorkeepers in the time of David; to them was allotted charge of the S. gate (of the Temple) and the storehouse (1Ch_26:1-32, esp. 1Ch_26:5; 1Ch_26:15). 4. 3. Father of Bath-sheba, 1Ch_3:5 called Eliam in 2Sa_11:3.

am?i-el (עמּיאל, ‛ammı̄'ēl, ?my kinsman is God?; Ἀμειήλ, Ameiḗl): A name borne by four men in the Old Testament.
(1) One of the twelve spies sent into Canaan by Moses; son of Gemalli, of the tribe of Dan (Num_13:12).
(2) A Benjamite, the father of Machir, a friend of David, living at Lodebar in Gilead (2Sa_9:4, 2Sa_9:5; 2Sa_17:27).
(3) Father of Bathshua (or Bathsheba), one of David's wives, who was mother of Solomon (1Ch_3:5). In the parallel passage, 2Sa_11:3, by transposition of the two parts of the name, he is called Eliam, meaning ?my God is a kinsman.?
(4) The sixth son of Obed-edom, a Levite, one of the doorkeepers of the tabernacle of God in David's life-time (1Ch_26:5).

Ammiel
(Hebrew Ammiel', עַמַּיאֵל, people [i.e. friend] of God: Sept. Αμιήλ), the name of four men:
1. The son of Gemalli, of the tribe of Dan, one of the twelve spies sent by Moses to explore the land of Canaan (Num_13:12), B.C. 1657. He was, of course, among the ten who perished by the plague for their unfavorable report (Num_14:37).
2. The father of Machir of Lo-debar, which latter was one of David's friends (2Sa_9:4-5; 2Sa_17:27). B.C. ante 1023.
3. The father of Bathsheba, wife of Uriah, and afterward of David (1Ch_3:5). In 2Sa_11:3, he is called (by transposition) ELIAM (q. V.).
4. The sixth son of Obed-edom, the Levite (1Ch_26:5), B.C. 1014.
