JOARIB.The head of the priestly family from which the Maccabees were descended (1Ma_2:1; 1Ma_14:29). Acc. to 1Ch_24:7 this family, there called that of Jehoiarib, was the first of the twenty-four courses of priests.

Varieties of the name are Jarib, Joarib, and Jehoiarib (1Ch_24:7).
