1. Mishael and Elzaphan, sons of Uzziel, Aaron's uncle, buried Nadab and Abihu in their loose tunics or "coats" (Lev_10:4-5). Thereby being defiled, six days before the Passover (Num_9:15; Exo_40:2-3; Lev_8:33), they probably were the men prevented from keeping the second Passover (Num_9:6; Num_1:46-49; Num_26:62; Exo_38:26). Mish'ael. (who is what God is?).
1. One of the sons of Uzziel, the uncle of Aaron and Moses. Exo_6:22, when Nadab and Abihu were struck dead for offering strange fire, Mishael and his brother, Elzaphan, at the command of Moses, removed their bodies from the sanctuary, and buried them without the camp, their loose-fitting tunics serving for winding-sheets. Lev_10:4-5.
2. One of those who stood at Ezra's left hand, when he read the law to the people. Neh_8:4. See Meshach.

(1) A Kohathite, 4th in descent from Levi (Exo_6:22). He and his brother Elzaphan carried out Moses' order to remove from the sanctuary and the camp the corpses of Nadab and Abihu (Lev_10:4 f).
(2) A supporter of Ezra at the reading of the Law (Neh_8:4).
(3) The Hebrew name of one of Daniel's 3 companions (Dan_1:6, Dan_1:7, Dan_1:11, Dan_1:19; Dan_2:17). His Babylonian name was MESHACH (which see).

(Heb. Misphal', מַישָׁאֵל, who is like God Sept. Μισαήλ), the name of three men.
1. The eldest of the three sons of Uzziel (the son of Kohath and grandson of Levi), and consequently the cousin of Aaron (Exo_6:22). He, with his brother Elzaphan, at the command of Moses, carried out the bodies of Nadab and Abihu to burial (Lev_10:4). B.C. 1657. They may thus have been two of those whose defilement by a dead body prevented their keeping the passover at Sinai on the regular day (Num_9:6; see Blunt, Coincidences, ad loc.).
2. The second named of the three Hebrew youths (Dan_1:6) trained along with Daniel at the Babylonian court (Dan_1:11), and promoted to the rank of magi (Dan_1:19). Having assisted Daniel in solving the dream of Nebuchadnezzar (Dan_2:17), they were advanced to civil dignities (Dan_3:12); but were afterwards cast into the blazing furnace for refusing to worship the royal idol; and, being miraculously delivered from it, they were still more highly honored by the king (Dan_3:13-30). His Chaldaean name was MESHACH (Dan_1:7). B.C. cir. 580.
3. One of those (apparently chief Israelites) who supported Ezra on the left hand while reading the law to the people after the captivity (Neh_8:4). B.C. 410.
