SEETHE.—This verb, which means to boil, occurs occasionally in AV [Note: Authorized Version.] , especially in the command (Exo_23:18 etc.), ‘Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother’s milk.’ The past tense was sod, as Gen_25:29 ‘Jacob sod pottage’; and the past part. sodden, as Lam_4:10 ‘The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children.’

Deu_14:21 (b) It is probably used to describe the destructive influences by wrong use of that which should be put to good use. That which should be a blessing to the kid and enable it to grow was used for its destruction. (See also Exo_23:19 and Exo_34:26. See under "KID").
