BEELTETHMUS.An officer of Artaxerxes residing in Pal., 1Es_2:16; 1Es_2:25 (LXX [Note: Septuagint.] 1Es_2:15; 1Es_2:21). It is not a proper name, but a title of Rehum, the name immediately preceding it in Ezr_4:8. It is a corruption of beçl teçm = lord of judgment, and is rendered chancellor by AV [Note: Authorized Version.] and RV [Note: Revised Version.] in Ezr., story-writer in 1Es_2:17.

According to Professor Sayce, the name by etymology means ?lord of official intelligence? or ?postmaster.? Rendered ?chancellor? in Ezr_4:8 and ?story-writer? in 1 Esdras 2:17.
