BERITES or BERIM. A clan mentioned with Abel and Beth-Maachah in N. Palestine, visited by Joab in pursuing Sheba, son of Bichri (2Sa_20:14), "all the Berites." They followed him at his call.

bē?rı̄ts (בּרים, bērı̄m; according to Klostermann and others, בּכרים, bikhrı̄m): The word is found only once in the Old Testament (2Sa_20:14). The passage seems to be doubtful. The suggestion of Klostermann does not improve matters any; the other proposed reading, בּחרים, baḥūrı̄m (Vulgate, viri electi), ?choice young men,? is to be preferred.
