Hebrews 4: 9 states that there is still a sabbatical rest 1 , the term sabbatical is the Greek "σαββατισμος" (sabatismos) 2 . What would be the term sabbatical? The dictionary of Greek terms quotes us that sabatismos relates to "keeping the Sabbath" 3 , or "keeping the Sabbath" 3 . It refers to the custom of keeping the Sabbath. This is a Greek term created to determine the action of keeping the Sabbath. Plutarch determines that the term is the act of keeping the Sabbath, So Plutarch determines that when someone is keeping the Sabbath he is doing a sabbatical.
If we take the Aramaic Peshita which is New Testament books in Aramaic we have verse 5 , in it we have the term " ܠܡܰܫܒ݁ܳܬ݂ܽܘ ", which is Aramaic for Sabbatism 5 . When looking for the reference for the term in the dictionaries for Aramaic 6 , we have 7 , which clearly defines that the term is related to the action of the guard of the seventh day. If we look at the origin of the Greek term we have that its form is a form of derivation from "σάββατον - sabbaton" 8 , which relates to the seventh day, which is balanced with the terms found in Aramaic and Greek 3,4,5,6,7 , which irrevocably binds that the term is related to seventh day custody.
which also has reference to the observance of the Sabbath. Thus, the author of Hebrews is saying that since the time of Jesus an observance of the Sabbath rest has been maintained "(" Sabbath, Rest and eschatology, in the New Testament, "From Saturday, to the Lord's Day, ed. DA Carson , 1982, p. 213).
That is, where we look for the meaning of the term "σαββατισμος" (sabatismos) 2 , we will be relating to the Sabbath of rest. The Greek linguistic study, links that the term "σαββατισμος" (sabatismos) 2 , has to do with the action of the guard of the seventh day, or practical action of doing what is done in keeping the seventh day. In other words, if I look at the action of keeping the Sabbath, that action is determined as "σαββατισμος" (sabatismos) 2 . What A.Barnes 9 also determines its direct connection with the seventh-day Sabbath.
If we look for the term in Latin we have "sabbatismus" 10 , and the Latin term has its formation also linked to the concept of guard of the seventh day 11 . So either in Greek, in Aramaic, or in Latin, the term "σαββατισμος" (sabatismos) 2 , is connected to the guard of the seventh day.
