Ecclesiastes 01 - What profit does a man have from all his work?

Words of the preacher, son of David, king in Jerusalem.
Vanity vanities, says the preacher, vanity vanities! Everything is vanity.
What is the benefit of man, of all his work, which he does under the sun?
One generation goes, and another generation comes; but the land forever remains.
The sun rises, and the sun goes down, and hurries and returns to the place where it was born.
The wind goes to the south, and makes its turn to the north; the wind continually rotates, and returns making its circuits.
All rivers go to the sea, and yet the sea is not filled; to the place where the rivers go, there they run again.
All things are laborious; man cannot express it; the eyes are not satisfied with seeing, nor the ears are filled with hearing.
What has been, this is what will be; and what has been done, it will be done; so that there is nothing new under the sun.
Is there anything that can be said: See, this is new? It was in the past centuries, which were before us.
There is no longer a memory of the things that preceded it, and of the things that will also be of them there will be no memory, among those who will come after.
I, the preacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
And I applied my heart to search, and to inform myself with wisdom of everything that happens under the sky; this boring occupation gave God to the children of men to exercise in them.
I took note of all the works that are done under the sun, and, behold, it was all vanity and affliction of spirit.
What is crooked cannot be straightened; what is missing cannot be calculated.
I spoke with my heart, saying, Behold, I have magnified myself, and have overcome in wisdom all those who were before me in Jerusalem; and my heart was full of wisdom and knowledge.
And I applied my heart to know wisdom and to know the insanity and madness, and I came to know that this too was an affliction of spirit.
Because in a lot of wisdom there is a lot of boredom; and what increases in knowledge, increases in pain.
