Chemical elements have different properties, and these properties generate effects that we can measure.
Two containers containing different gases in the same environment can have the same weight but different volumes.
One of the formulas that we can see such things is the formula "P""V" equals "n""R""T".
Hydrogen is an extremely important gas for the future, and its Molar weight is 1. Thus, 1 gram of Hydrogen has 1 mole of Hydrogen.
Under normal conditions of pressure and temperature, one mole of a gas is 22.4 liters. Thus, one gram of atomic hydrogen is 22.4 liters.
But the hydrogen bonds with another hydrogen forming the hydrogen molecule. And a hydrogen molecule has two hydrogen atoms.
Therefore, the molar mass of a hydrogen molecule is 2, so one mole of hydrogen is 2 grams.
Helium gas is called a noble gas because it remains as a helium atom without having to transform into a molecule. The molar mass of helium is 4. So one mole of helium is 4 grams.
So, let's make a comparative system. Thus, 2 grams of molecular hydrogen have 1 mol or 22.4 liters. But 2 grams of Helium is not 1 mol of Helium because Helium has a molar weight of 4.
So 2 grams of Helium is half a mole. If one mole of Helium is 22.4 liters, then half a mole is 11.2.
So, when we have the same weight of molecular Hydrogen, and of atomic Helium. We have that the volume of Hydrogen is twice that of Helium.
Thus, a Helium balloon is half the size of a Hydrogen balloon, if they have the same weight.
