CONVENIENT.This Eng. word often has in AV [Note: Authorized Version.] its primary meaning of befitting, as Rom_1:28 God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient (RV [Note: Revised Version.] fitting). So in the trans. of Agrippas Van Artes (1684) She sang and dancd more exquisitely than was convenient for an honest woman.

Convenient
used in the A.V. only in its old Latin, sense of suitable or becoming, as a rendering of יָשָׁר, yashar' (Jeremiah xl, 4, 5, right, as often elsewhere), חֹק, chok (Pro_30:8, an allotted portion, as sometimes elsewhere), καθῆκον (Rom_1:28, fit, as in Act_22:22), ἀνῆκον (Eph_5:4; Phm_1:8, fit, as in Col_3:18); but εὕκαιρος (Mar_6:21), εὐκαίρως (Mar_14:11), εὐκαιρέω (1Co_16:12), or simply καιρός (Acts' 24:25), refer to opportuneness of time or season. Similarly in the Apocrypha (καθήκω, Sir_10:23; 1Ma_12:11; 2Ma_4:19; 2Ma_11:36), ἐπιτήδειος, (1Ma_4:46; 1Ma_14:34) ἐπίκαιρος (2Ma_4:32; 2Ma_14:22), simply καιρός (Sir_39:17), or mere construction (2Ma_10:18).
