Ab'di. (my servant).
1. A Merarite, and ancestor of Ethan the singer. 1Ch_6:44. (B.C. Before 1015).
2. The father of Kish, a Merarite, in the reign of Hezekiah. 2Ch_29:12. (B.C. Before 736).
3. One of the Bene-Elam, (that is, sons of Elam), in the time of Ezra, who had married a foreign wife. Ezr_10:26. (B.C. 659).

ab?dı̄ עבדּי, (‛abhdı̄, probably by abbreviation ?servant of Yahweh?): (1) A Levite, father of Kishi and grandfather of King David's singer Ethan (1Ch_6:44; compare 1Ch_15:17). This makes Abdi a contemporary of Saul the king. (2) A Levite, father of the Kish who was in service at the beginning of the reign of Hezekiah (2Ch_29:12). Some mistakenly identify this Abdi with the former. (3) A man who in Ezra's time had married a foreign wife (Ezr_10:26). Not a Levite, but ?of the sons of Elam.?

Abdi
(Heb. Abdi', עְְבדַּי, my servant; or, according to Gesenius, for עבְַדַּיָּה, servant of Jehovah; but, according to Furst, properly עְְבדּיְ, bondman), the name of three men.
1. (Sept. Α᾿βδί v. r. Α᾿βαϊv.) A Levite. grandfather of one Ethan, which latter lived in the time of David (1Ch_6:44). B.C. considerably ante 1014.
2. (Sept. Α᾿βδί.) A Levite, father of one Kish (different from Kishi, a son of the preceding), which latter assisted in the reformation under Hezekiah (2Ch_29:12). B.C. ante 726.
3. (Sept. Α᾿βδία.) An Israelite of the sons of Elam, who divorced his Gentile wife after the return from Babylon (Ezr_10:26), B.C. 459.
