a-hı̄?moth (אחימות, 'aḥı̄mōth, ?brother of death,? or, ?my brother is death?): A descendant of Kohath the son of Levi (1Ch_6:25); ancestor of Elkanah the father of Samuel. The name Mahath holds a similar place in the list that follows (1Ch_6:35).

Ahimoth
(Hebrew Achimoth', אֲחַימוֹת, brother of death, i e. perh. destructive; Sept. Α᾿χιμώθ), a person named with Amasai as sons of Elkanah, a Levite (1Ch_6:25). From 1Ch_6:35, however, it would appear that he was rather the grandson of this Elkanah (through Amasai), and the father of the other Elkanah of 1Ch_6:26. He is there called MAHATH SEE MAHATH (q.v.).
