hā?ref (חרף, ḥārēph, ?scornful?): A chief of Judah, one of the sons of Caleb and father of Beth-gader (1Ch_2:51). A quite similar name, Hariph, occurs in Neh_7:24; Neh_10:19, but it is probably that of another individual.

Hareph
(Heb. Chareph', חָרֵ, plucking off; Sept. Α᾿ρεί v. r. Α᾿ρίμ), the fatherof Beth-Gader, and sonof Caleb of Judah by one of his legitimate wives (1Ch_2:51). B.C. cir. 1612. The patronymic Haruphite(q.v.) seems to connect this with HARIPH.
