HOSHAMA.A descendant of David (1Ch_3:18)
Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible
Edited by James Hastings, D.D. Published in 1909
Son of Jehoiachin, or Jeconiah (1Ch_3:18). In Jehoiachin's capture by Nebuchadnezzar his mother and wives are mentioned, but not his sons (2Ki_24:12; 2Ki_24:15), and he is doomed to be "childless" in Jer_22:30. Either there is confusion of the genealogies in 1 Chronicles 3, or, as Mat_1:12 says "Jeconias begat Salathiel," by "childless" Jeremiah means he should have no lineal heir to the throne, as Jeremiah adds, "no man of his seed shall prosper ... sitting upon the throne of David."
