Mail
(קִשְׂקֶשֶׂת, koaske'seth, a scale, as of fish, Lev_11:9, etc.), spoken of as a cuirass composed of plates of metal attached to a bodice like scales, so as to be impervious to the sword (1Sa_17:5). Another term, rendered coat of mail, is שַׁרְיוֹן,' shiryon', which signifies the corselet or garment thus encased (1Sa_17:38). At other times metallic rings were employed instead of scales (see Kitto, Pict. Dict. note at 1 Samuel 17). SEE ARMOR.
