MECHERATHITE.1Ch_11:36, prob. for Maachathite.1
Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible
Edited by James Hastings, D.D. Published in 1909
1Ch_11:36. Kennicott prefers reading" Maachathite," as in the parallel list (2Sa_23:34).

mḗ-kē?rath-ı̄t (מכרתי, mekhērāthı̄, ?dweller in Mecharah?): Possibly this is a misreading of ?Maachathite? (the King James Version). It is the description of Hepher, one of David's valiant men (1Ch_11:36).
In the Wallel list of 2 Sam 23, especially 2Sa_23:34, the ?Maachathite? is mentioned without name in the place in the list given to Hepher in 1Ch_11:36. The variations do not destroy the conviction that the list is virtually the same.

Mecherathite
(Hebrews Mekerathi', מְכֵרָתַי, gentile from מְכֵרָה, Mekerah', a sword, as in. Gen_49:5; Sept. Μεχουραθί v. r. Μεχωραθρί, Vulg. Mecherathites), an epithet applied to Hepher, one of David's famous warriors, probably as being a native of MECHERAH, a place otherwise unknown (1Ch_11:36); but from the parallel passage (2Sa_23:34) it would appear to be a corruption for MAACHATHITE.
