nḗ-rı̄?a (נריּה, nērı̄yāh, ?whose lamp is Yah?): The father of Seraiah and of Baruch, Jeremiah's friend and secretary (Jer_32:12, Jer_32:16; Jer_36:4, Jer_36:8, Jer_36:32; Jer_43:3). In Baruch 1:1 the Greek form of the name, Νηρ(ε)ίας, Nēr(e)ı́as, is given, and this shortened, Neri, occurs in the genealogy of Jesus Christ.

Neriah
(Heb. Neriyah', נֵרַיָּה, Jehovah is my lamp, or lamp of Jehovah, also [Jer_36:14; Jer_36:32; in the prolonged form Neriya'hu, נֵרַיָּהיּ; Sept. Νηρίας [v.r. Νηρί in Jer_43:3]; Vulg: Nerias, but Neri in Jer_22:12), the son of Maaseiah, and father of Seraiah (Jer_51:59) and Baruch (Jer_32:12; Jer_32:16; Jer_36:4; Jer_36:8; Jer_36:14; Jer_36:32; Jer_43:3; Jer_43:6; Jer_45:1). He appears to be the same with NERI SEE NERI (q.v.) in our Lord's maternal ancestry (Luk_3:27-28; see Strong's Harmony and Expos. of the Gospels, page 17). B.C. cir. 620.
