kwit: Same derivation as ?quiet,? so that ?to be quit? (Exo_21:19, Exo_21:28; Jos_2:20 the King James Version) is ?to be relieved of responsibility,? נקה, nāḳāh, נקי, nāḳı̄, ?guiltless? (so the Revised Version (British and American) Jos_2:20). Hence, ?to quit one's self? means ?to be freed by discharging a duty.? The phrase in English Versions of the Bible, however, is a gloss for in 1Sa_4:9 it is used for היה, hāyāh, ?to be,? while in 1Co_16:13 ἀνδρίζομαι, andrı́zomai, means ?to behave like a man.?
