Shebani'ah (increased by Jehovah).
1. A Levite, in the time of Ezra. Neh_9:4-5. He sealed the covenant with Nehemiah. Neh_10:10. (B.C. 459).
2. A priest, or priestly family, who sealed the covenant with Nehemiah. Neh_10:4; Neh_112:14, called Shechaniah, in Neh_12:3.
3. Another Levite, who sealed the covenant with Nehemiah. Neh_10:12.
4. One of the priests, appointed by David, to blow with the trumpets before the Ark of God. 1Ch_15:24. (B.C. 1043). See Shechaniah.

sheb-a-nı̄?a, shḗ-ban?ya (שבניה, shebhanyāh, in 1Ch_15:24, shebhanyāhū):
(1) Name of a Levite or a Levitical family that participated in the religious rites that followed the reading of the Law (Neh_9:4). The name is given in Neh_10:10 among those that sealed the covenant.
(2) A priest or Levite who took part in the sealing of the covenant (Neh_10:4; Neh_12:14). See SHECANIAH.
(3) Another Levite who sealed the covenant (Neh_10:12).
(4) A priest in the time of David (1Ch_15:24).

(Heb. Shebanyah', שְׁבִנְיָה, increased of Jehovah; once [1Ch_15:24] in the prolonged form Shebanya'hu, שְׁבִנְיָהוּ), the name of four Hebrews.
1. (Sept. Σεβενία v.r. Σοβνεία and Σομνία.) One of the Levitical trumpeters on the removal of the ark from the house of Obed-edom to Jerusalem (1Ch_15:24). B.C. 1043.
2. (Sept. Σαβανία and Σεχενία, v.r. Σεβανία, Σαχανία, etc.) One of Ezra's Levitical attendants, who stood upon the steps and uttered the prayer of confession and thanksgiving (Neh_9:4-5), and joined in the sacred covenant (10:10). B.C. 459.
3. (Sept. Σεβανία.) Another Levite who joined in the same covenant (Neh_10:12). B.C. 459.
4. (Sept. Σεβανί, Σεχενία.) A priest who did the same (Neh_10:4; Neh_12:14). B.C. 459. He had a son named Joseph (Neh_12:14). Hie is apparently the same elsewhere (Neh_12:3) called SHECHANIAH (q.v.).
