One of the Levites sent by Jehoshaphat to teach in the cities of Judah (2Ch_17:8). 9. An officer of king Jehoshaphat (2Ch_19:11).

5. Son of Michael, of the sons of Shephatiah (Ezr_8:8); returned with 80 males in Ezra's caravan (Ezr_8:8).
6. A priest, of the sons of Immer; married a foreign wife (Ezr_10:20).
7. Third son of Meshelemiah, the Korhite (1Ch_26:2).
8. A Levite sent by Jehoshaphat to teach the law in the Cities of Judah (2Ch_17:8).
9. Son of Ishmael, and prince of Judah under Jehoshaphat (2Ch_19:11). Zebadiah probably acted for the king, Amariah the high priest for the priesthood and ecclesiastical interests in the court consisting of priests, Levites, and chief men, over which they jointly presided, and which decided all causes civil and ecclesiastical.

zeb-a-dı̄?a ((1) זבדיהוּ, zebhadhyāhā, (2) זבדיה, zebhadhyāh, ?Yah has bestowed?; the form (1) is the Hebrew name in (1), (a), (b), (2), below; the form (2) in the rest. Some manuscripts have Zechariah in (1), (a), (b), (3)). Compare ZABDI; ZABDIEL:
(1) Levites: (a) a Korahite doorkeeper of David's reign (1Ch_26:2); (b) one of the Levites sent by King Jehoshaphat to teach the Tōrāh in Judah (2Ch_17:8).
(2) Son of Ishmael (2Ch_19:11); ?ruler of the house of Judah in all the king's (Jehoshaphat's) matters,? i.e. judge in civil cases, the ?controversies? of 2Ch_19:8.
(3) Benjamites, perhaps descended from Ehud (see Curtis, Chron., 158 ff): (a) In 1Ch_8:15; (b) in 1Ch_8:17, where the name may be a dittography from 1Ch_8:15.
(4) A Benjamite recruit of David at Ziklag (1Ch_12:7 (Hebrew verse 8)).
(5) One of David's army officers, son and successor of Asahel (1Ch_27:7).
(6) One of those who returned from Babylon to Jerusalem with Ezra (Ezr_8:8) = ?Zaraias? of 1 Esdras 8:34.
(7) One of those who had married foreign wives (Ezr_10:20) = ?Zabdeus? of 1 Esdras 9:21.

(Heb. Zebaayah', זְבִדְיָה[thrice in the prolonged form Zebadya'hu, זַבִדְיָהיּ1Ch_26:2; 2Ch_17:8; 2Ch_19:11], gift of Jehovah; Sept. Ζαβαδία or Ζαβαδίας v r Ζαβδίας or Ζαβδία etc.), the name of several Israelites. SEE ZABIEL.
1. A Benjamite of the “sons” of Beriah (1Ch_8:15). B.C. cir. 1618.
2. A Benjamite of the “sons” of Elpaal (1Ch_8:17). B.C. cir. 1618.
3. One of the two sons of Jeroham of Gedor, a Benjamite who joined the fortunes of David in his retreat at Ziklag (1Ch_12:7). B.C. 1054.
4. A Levite, third son of Meshelemiah the Korhite (1Ch_26:2). B.C. 1043.
5. Son of Asahel (Joab's brother), and commander with his father of the fourth contingent of David's troops (1Ch_27:7). B.C. 1014.
6. One of the two Levites who were sent with others in the third year of Jehoshaphat to teach the law in the cities of Judah (2Ch_17:8). B.C. 910.
7. The son of Ishmael and prince of the house of Judah in the reign of Jehoshaphat, who, in conjunction with Amariah the chief priest, was appointed to the superintendence of the Levites, priests and chief men who had to decide all causes, civil and ecclesiastical, which were brought before them (2Ch_19:11). B.C. 895. They possibly may have formed a kind of court of appeal, Zebadiah acting for the interests of the king, and Amariah being the supreme authority in ecclesiastical matters.
8. Son of Michael of the “sons” of Shephatiah, who returned with Ezra from Babylon with eighty male relatives (Ezr_8:8). B.C. 459.
9. A priest of the “sons” of Immer, who divorced his Gentile wife married after the Exile (Ezr_10:20). B.C. 458.
