The sons of Pochereth were of Zebaim which some identify with ZEBOIM; others translated Pochereth hatsebaim, "the snarer (hunter) of roes" (Ezr_2:57; Neh_7:59).

(Heb. with the art. hats-Tsebaïm' הִצְּבָיַthe gazelles, as often; Sept. υίοὶ Α᾿σεβωείμ v.r. Α᾿σεβωείν; Vulg. Asebainn; in Nehemiah hats-Tsebaïm', הִצְּבָיַי; Sept. υἱοὶ Σαβαείμ; Vug. Sabaim), apparently the name of the native place of the sons of Pochereth, who are mentioned in the catalogue of the families of Solomon's slaves as having returned from the Captivity with Zerubbabel (Ezr_2:57; Neh_7:59). On the other hand, the compound name Pochereth hat-Tsebaïm is considered by some to have no reference to place, but to signify the snarer or hunter of roes (Gesenius, Thesaur. p. 1102 b; Bertheau, Exeq. Handb. Ezr_2:57), designating doubtless an individual SEE POCHERETH.
